We provide GREAT JOBS with opportunity for ADVANCEMENT!

At Kirby, the career ladder can be climbed quickly and can lead to dynamic, exciting, and highly rewarding positions within the marine transportation industry. From your entry into our basic seamanship program, you can be earning $31,400 annually by the end of your first year. Just 18 months from entry, you can become eligible to apply for our Wheelhouse Apprentice Mate (Steersman) program where you will learn how to pilot a Kirby towboat. With an additional 18 months of work, you can become a Mate (pilot) of a towing vessel and earn $95,000 per year!
maritime trainee positions

Tankerman trainee is an entry level position in the marine transportation industry. No work experience is required, only a good work ethic and a willingness to learn. Kirby's in-house training center provides you the knowledge and skills needed while paying your salary ("earn while you learn"). In the first 40 days you learn about the towboat, the transportation industry, and how to safely work on the deck. Medical benefits begin after 60 days. With training, you can advance to pilot or captain in a matter of years because Kirby believes in promotion from within.

Kirby offers great benefits, including inclusion in our 401(k) program after 3 months and our medical benefits after 30 days. Tankermen are eligible to apply for our Mate(Pilot) program after completing 360 on-board days which puts them on the path to becoming a Captain.
