Kirby Inland Marine is looking for men and women to come aboard our vessels, with no experience necessary. We train our employees to be the best. Our entry level positions require only a willingness to learn and a little hard work. At Kirby, you will have the opportunity to climb the career ladder quickly. Our USCG-approved training program gives you the tools necessary for success. Deckhands and trainees quickly become tankermen; our tankermen have the option to enter our Wheelhouse Apprentice Mate (Steersmen) program and one day, pilot our towboats. For those who have worked on the water before, now is the time to begin working for a company that believes in the capabilities of every employee. You will have terrific benefits, a defined career ladder, and the support of a shore staff that makes you feel like family.
At Kirby, the career ladder can be climbed quickly and can lead to dynamic, exciting, and highly rewarding positions within the inland marine transportation industry. From entry into our basic seamanship program, you can be earning $32,000 annually by the end of your first year. Just 18 months from entry, you can become eligible to apply for our Wheelhouse Apprentice Mate (Steersman) program where you will learn how to pilot a Kirby towboat. With an additional 18 months of work, you can become a Mate (Pilot) of a towing vessel and earn $95,000 per year!
Kirby Inland Marine operates the nation's largest fleet of inland tank barges and towing vessels. Kirby Inland prides itself on having the best-trained crews and support staff in the industry providing both formal classroom and hands-on instruction at the Kirby Training Center in Houston, Texas.
