Kirby Inland Marine has one entry level position available on our vessels. A Deckhand position is the starting point for vessel careers with Kirby. No maritime experience is required, only a good work ethic and the willingness to learn. Kirby's in-house training center gives you a solid foundation providing you with the basic knowledge and skills needed to be successful on a towboat.

At Kirby, the career ladder can be climbed quickly and can lead to dynamic, exciting, and highly rewarding positions within the maritime industry.
Upon successful completion of our Basic Seamanship Program, you will begin as a Level 1 Deckhand Trainee earning $120 a day on a vessel! And, just 18 months from entry, you can become eligible to apply for our Wheelhouse Apprentice Mate (Steersman) program where you will learn how to pilot a Kirby towboat. With an additional 18 months of work, you can become a Mate (Pilot) of a towing vessel and earn over $100,000 per year! |
