Kirby Inland Marine has two entry level positions available on our vessels. Tankerman trainee is an entry level position that has a career track which includes obtaining a MMD PIC-DL so that you can work as a tankerman on a vessel. Deckhand is the other entry level position. Both positions begin at $120/day. No work experience is required, only a good work ethic and the willingness to learn. Kirby's in-house training center provides you with the knowledge and skills needed. In the first 40 days you learn about the towboat. Medical benefits begin after 60 days.

At Kirby, the career ladder can be climbed quickly and can lead to dynamic, exciting, and highly rewarding positions within the maritime industry.
Upon successful completion of our Basic Seamanship Program, you will begin as a Level 1 Deckhand / Tankerman Trainee earning $120 a day on a vessel! And, just 18 months from entry, you can become eligible to apply for our Wheelhouse Apprentice Mate (Steersman) program where you will learn how to pilot a Kirby towboat. With an additional 18 months of work, you can become a Mate (pilot) of a towing vessel and earn $80,300 per year! |
