Testimonials

"Joining the Kirby Team has been a life-changing experience from the start. I started out in June of 2006 at the Kirby Training Facility. There I got a great footing and a taste of what goes on in the tow-boating industry. I was very anxious to get out and get my hands on the sticks. When class was over, I was sent to my new home on the M/V Dixie Vandal to being my training with a very helpful group of guys. Within five months, I was running a watch by myself at night through what I learned was called “The Ditch.”  It was then that I realized that all my hard work and training at the New York Maritime College had finally paid off. I am very happy with the career choice that I made for myself and am excited to move up the ranks towards captain. Here at Kirby, there are no limitations. I like to say to people that if you are hungry, Kirby is going to feed you. With the proper licenses and certifications, you can advance as fast as you want with Kirby. All said and done, I am very proud to work here for Kirby Inland Marine."

"There were many things that attracted me to Kirby.  This company offers competitive wages, excellent benefits, and the opportunity to operate towing vessels in some of the most difficult waterways in the country.  For years I had heard stories about the Houston Ship Channel and how difficult it is to navigate.  Now day in and day out, I operate in this area and feel comfortable doing so.  I have been given the opportunity to train alongside some of the best mariners in the industry and am now capable of making a large tow do things that I never imagined possible.  I’ve always been someone that thrives on adrenaline and there is no shortage of opportunity for that illusive adrenaline rush with Kirby.  We continuously operate in areas of high traffic, narrow channels, and extraordinary weather conditions.  This opportunity to navigate these waterways, alongside the excellent pay and great benefits makes Kirby an excellent company to work for."

"Hiring on with Kirby is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Their on the job training and 1st class training programs have given me all the tools I need to be a successful Pilot.  Kirby's highly competitive wages, health and retirement benefits lets me know that Kirby is working for me and that I am not just working for Kirby!"
