In-Plant Operator

Overview of Job Responsibilities

The Dock (Person In Charge) performs the connection/disconnection of transfer hoses and loading arms and serve as a continuous onsite monitor for liquid petroleum transfers both loading and discharging of ships, barges, tank cars, tank trucks. Performs other operator duties such as tank gauging, line pigging, and sampling.

In-Plant Operators adhere to all established safe work practices, administration policies and procedures as well as all governmental regulations related to the transfer of liquid petroleum cargoes. They work under the direct supervision of the shift Team Leader and strive to maintain a safe and successful marine transfer facility.

They prepare the dock or facility site for loading/discharging liquid petroleum cargoes as per facility loading instructions. This includes performing line-up of pipelines, opening/closing valves, and connection/disconnection of transfer hoses and loading arms.

Other Job Duties Include:

  1. Connect and disconnect cargo hoses/loading arms to facilitate the safe transfer of liquid petroleum cargo to/from the Vessel/Barge/Shore tank/Rail Car/Tank Truck.
  2. Continuously monitors transfer utilizing pressure gauges, maintaining documentation of cargo transfer history, vessel/shore communications, and various other transfer system components such as tank cars or tank trucks.
  3. Acquires and fills out various required paperwork and reports relating to the transfer. Also documents fully all critical information in a permanent legal dock logbook.
  4. Continuously monitors and documents the volume of product moving between vessel(s) and shore keeping all involved parties informed of the transfer status
  5. Operates equipment for the recovery of vapors during cargo transfer when required.
  6. Perform gauging and sampling duties and assists company personnel, inspectors, product samplers and dock supervisors as needed.
  7. Ability to use fire fighting equipment and spill containment equipment.
  8. Works shift schedules as directed by management according to workload requirements.
  9. Is willing to work as operations require, including additional days or hours, as the workload requires. Must be on time for all work duties.
  10. Required to use tools such as: hand-wrenches, pliers, scrapers, ratchets, gauge lines, temperature probe, etc… and also required to be trained on and operate pedestal cranes which are utilized to handle cargo hoses and equipment.
  11.  They perform general housekeeping, light maintenance, care for tools and equipment, and perform other general duties as assigned by their respective Team Leaders.
